What you see when the names are hidden

In the Angel Investor Time Machine you don't see company names, only the kind of one-line pitch investors heard at the time: "a college-only social network started in a Harvard dorm," "a site that rents air mattresses in spare rooms to travelers," "a Korean delivery app that put takeout flyers on your phone." They sound like obvious winners now, but every round also includes failures that sounded just as good.

Most companies are US startups, with a couple of Korean ones (Baemin and Coupang). In English mode, your stake is shown as $10,000.

How early-stage investing really works

The chip system mirrors real angel investing: most bets go to zero, but a single breakout can cover every loss and then some. Concentrate your chips and you win or lose big; spread them out and you won't miss the winner, but your return gets diluted. Multiples use reported early-investor returns where available and otherwise the ratio between the valuation at investment and the later acquisition or IPO value, ignoring later dilution.
